anyway, i was perousing the mornings headline and i was reading a column by peggy noonan about the hurricane and its aftermath. now since the images have flooded in like the proverbial tide, i have seen alot of looting pics and it has actually rather sickened the bastard. i can understand, the shit is coming down and you don't have food and you have 2 bucks in your wallet. but hey the city is chest deep in water and i don't have any potable water and nothing to eat so i grab a gallon od deer park and some cold cuts. hell, i grab a whole chicken or rast beef right out of the deli so my family and whoever i'm huddled up with can eat too. it's the decent thing to do. but i don't think i could possibly show the world what a disgusting piece of humanity i am by stealing a flat screen television in the process. noona writes:
As for the tragic piggism that is taking place on the streets of New Orleans, it is not unbelievable but it is unforgivable, and I hope the looters are shot. A hurricane cannot rob a great city of its spirit, but a vicious citizenry can. A bad time with Mother Nature can leave you digging out for a long time, but a bad turn in human behavior frays and tears all the ties that truly bind human being--trust, confidence, mutual regard, belief in the essential goodness of one's fellow citizens.
now despite the bastard's pessimistc rantings, deep down inside, i used to think that we were all inherently good people. that in the end, in a crisis, we would all feel inclined to do the right thing by one another. maybe that's the catholic in me talking but i think he's pretty much dead inside now. people suck. no this isn't news to me but the bastard can dream can't he.maybe it's more like i woke up and you all suck.
