...the the cult of personality

..or how celebrity will eat the left.

now the bastard has spent alot of time lately beating his political drum and the mofo responds in his way but i want to discuss the role of celebrity. apparently while the bastard was sleeping it off there was a benefit for the victims of hurricane katrina and bette midler had this little piece of slander:

Bette Midler had even stronger words: "I got a letter from the Republican Party the other day. I wrote back, 'Go fuck yourself.'" She then added, "George Bush is a fan of mine -- he came to see me in the Seventies. His coke dealer brought him."

now i'm thinking that bette midler needs to shut the hell up. just like in the kanye west post i have to say that i don't want to say that she's dumb as a box of rocks but, she's dumb as a box of rocks. now to be fair, celebrities aren't always the most educated lot, the bastard read something a number of years ago running down a list of high school and college dropouts who beat the drum for lefty out there (to be fair i believe susan sarandon DID graduate college which explains how old and leathery she looks) frequently but, slander is slander and i figure she'll get a pass on it. celebrity always does. that's why they do it because they have surrounded themselves with people that share their point of view as most people do (except for the bastard, i let the other opinion post here on alternating days) and that creates an insulated life. you learn nothing new and your yes people won't tell you no because they want to stay on the gravy train and subsequently said celebrity continues to think they are right , all of the time. another factor is guilt. now bette got her start playing shows in bathhouses in the 70's. very small beginnings. now she's stinking rich. and going from rags to riches makes one want to stay "in touch" with the little guy. how you can do that with an entourage is beyond me. sure, you can stand up for environmental causes, adopt a stretch of highway, donate money to gay mens health crisis but, the bastard sees this as a tax write off as well. bette is also a blue state new yorker. she's entitled, most people from gotham are. i'm not. oh shit. what am i gonna do? i'll tell you what. i'm going to keep going to work every day and do what i do.

the problem with celebrity is also while living an insular out of touch life, you also pick and choose your current events. if you've ever paid barbara streisand's site a visit (and please go, she's batshit crazy), you'll know that celebrities also have no sense of history. case in point. did you know that FEMA and the clinton administration dropped the ball in 1995 during the chicago heat wave? now the bastard knows what you're saying. is it something to the tune of, "fuh fuh fuh. why do you have to bring up clinton? fuh fuh fuh. he's not the president anymore. fuh fuh fuh." well i'll tell you why. because stupid! because the fact is that he DID drop the ball. that other presidents dropped the ball in the past and no celebrity made nearly the stink that they make now over bush back then. and most importantly because it is HISTORY. something we as a people aren't long on remembering. 1000 poor folks died in the summer of 1995 and the administration did too little, too late. day late, dollar short and on the contrary, the current administration although flawed, handled shit faster that shit was handled under hurricane andrew. why does it seem like before bush got in the white house that there were no disasters and that the government never fucked up or caught hell for it?

hell one more thing i've been wondering about is why certain senators from my home state named chuck schumer are raising funds for their party using the disaster as grist. now i'm sure that there are folks who found schumer's predecessor to ba a real bag of crap but this has got to be the biggest most opportunistc bag of crap move i've seen since the lack of press his opponents got during his re-election bid. look for an equivalent lapse in media coverage for hillary's opponents next year kids.

perhaps i should have left fema off of that little comment. and my not being in chicago isn't terribly relavent to the fact that a bunch of poor folks died in chicago that summer. the thrust of said post was less about who dropped the ball in new york junior that year but how quickly celebrities tend to forget that there were in fact presidential screw ups before the chimp came into office.

no he was bonzo. now there's a classic example of a republican trying to see middle ground. johnny ramone never wanted to perform bonzo goes to bitburg but he did it anyway because the ramones were a democracy

fact of the matter is, i don't know if that's dean thrilla. he knows about the blog, he said he wanted to check it out one day but his startup date in his profile suggest that it isn't him. unless thrilla became a member in december 2004. the bastard conducts background checks

nah. people come in and out every now and again by hitting the "next blog" button. a spammer usually employs a software robot to do their dirty work and the wavy letters are there to prevent an automated function from filling out a form here. so kick out the jams mutha grabba
