frikkin' loves

gundam unicorn!

never have i followed a series that takes so long to produce.

never have i followed a series that continues to deliver the goods.

and never will a series leave me waiting around with baited breath for the next installment.

the bastard will be sad when it's done

television is frikkin ponderous

so the bastard has been watching a lot of x-files with his free time.

which i would up today due to the fact that it's sort of lost it's luster after 7 seasons and the fact that mulder leaves the show at this point only to be replaced by evil t-1000

so i figure between that and a shit attention span, i should move on to something more retarded like say high school of the dead.

but as i bid the show adieu, the bastard has to wonder...

...is there really a magazine called feng shui life?

and who the hell would read it?

subscribe to it?

what the hell?

this weak is not anime

truth to tell, the bastard has been obsessing over mi-5 of late.

which is called spooks in great britain.

but you can't call a show spooks on american television even if it's airing on pbs.

what'd ya want? a dissertation on it?

old man my ass

so, i read alot of stuff that warren ellis writes.

and i enjoy it alot.

i feel that one can read the word "shiteyes" overe and over and over again.

but i haven't read red yet (it's a pun get it? ahhhhhhh shaddup).

anyway, the bastard is so down for seeing this one.

quite like how all things jason statham makes bald guys feel ok about being bald,

this will make me feel ok about being old.

and and shit blows up in this film.

and i like this too.

this week on heroman we discover that...

the president of the united states is andrew jackson AND he jogs.

this series WILL be tailor made for the flyover states.

and that stan lee really loves seeing animated stan lee in his cartoon series. i still kinda liked his as hefner cameo in the first iron man film. big ups to the fhills stan.

this weak in anime

...special best lucky hopeful edition

this afternoon i was watching a little anime on my lunch hour.

and the trustie had told me about this series heroman that was going to be airing this spring brought to us by bones studio.

bones has brought the bastard via the internets two series i really enjoyed called resperctively eureka seven which has one of my top 5 greatest moments in anime (television really) and xam'd lost memories.

i'm currently watching soul eater which is proving to be worth my while and goes well with a glass of bourbon during the bastard's evening downtime.

now the kicker is this. stan lee was working with bones on this deries and it SO has his markings on it.

nerdy kid gets powers (or perhaps the giant robo idea of a boy and his robot).

girl likes nerd.

girls jock brother beats up on nerdy kid.

with great power comes great responsibility.

sound familiar?

oh and it also has stan lee's famous cameo in it.

did i mention a boy and his robot.

either way, this is some hopeful, feel good shit. it's kind of innocent as well.

i had an awful experience last summer watching last exile with my son, as there was so many key characters surrounded by death and violence that the boy had begun to worry about his own mortality.

this is something i can show him and walk away feeling good that i can impart my love of anime on my son without giving him a complex about death.

good stuff.

this weak in anime

remember when it used to be cool to smoke?

the bastard does.

and it was interesting how it popped up in pop culture back in the day.

this was from the original macross series which aired as robotech in the late 80's/early 90's.

presumably without this scene as it no doubt ran on wpix alongside voltron and g.I. Joe.

can aliens say flavor country?

this week in anime

now the bastard has been watching gundam since around 1980.

and I've seen some good sequels.

and I've seen some crap sequels.

I mean if your going to have a series franchise for 30 plus, you're bound to have some stinkers.

and when sunrise announced a series called "unicorn gundam", the bastard was a little skeptical.

but this was ambitious.

really fucking ambitious.

well animated and decently written, it was more premiere than I had hoped for.

the bastard looks forward to the rest of the story unfolding.

i was watching macross frontier when i came across this bit of subtitle.

actually it was much better than the bastard remembers macross to be.

this weak in anime

special out of context "who the hell is translating this?" edition

there's nothing the bastard liek better than taking shit out of context.

case meets point

apparently shooting at shit is a thrill this man cannot explain to the women.

perhaps something gets lost in the translation

perhaps not.
