...on working from home

so after a morning of working from home and working en route to it, the boy and i went to the park to ride our bikes.

let me back up. the bastard and his ladyfriend had been discussing how i wanted to start riding bikes again and coincidentally, so did she.

so we decided to buy something that would better fit into my tiny automobile. yeah, yeah, the bastard has gone on ad nauseum about how he feels about bicyclists and their entitlement issues and inability to simply obey traffic laws but, i bought a helmet. i bought a bike that has, get this, BRAKES. i stop at, get this, STOP SIGNS. but i digress, the boy and i went bicycling.

and it was prety good. it's true what they say about riding a bike. we went around for a bit and i decided to call it quits at the park when the bastard saw that what appeared to be a drug deal was about to go down. you see, the bastard wants his son to have a childhood.

SPECIAL BONUS BATTER: suburbia strikes again, kids. after the park, the boy and i went to get me a bike helmet, you know, because the bastard has already experienced WHY one should wear a helmet. we also stopped for lunch at the mall (cuz that's where the damn sporting goods shop is, dummy) and i saw what can only describe as, retarded tattoo number 356; also known as the life affirming, but poorly placed tattoo. you see, the bastard has friends that have ink. and they didn't do it half assed.

no.

they use their whole ass.

the funny thing is, this girls tattoo says carpe diem on her foot. i wonder if she always seizes the day by the foot. oh suburbia, why do you give the bastard so much to work with. maybe she can get a rose or a butterfly tattooed on her ankle too. or maybe a tramp stamp. the bastard is kind of glad he had a son instead.

...on being smart

a few years ago, the bastard had heard about a little car (quite literally) from europe called the smart. no one really paid very much mind to it here because gas was cheaper than tap water here so everyone thought it would be a great idea to buy an suv.

but now gas costs a lot more and alot of people are unhappy about it as well as some of our nations popular talking heads. so now this car which has been made in europe for years has finally reached our shores and now:

all kids love smart. i mean what's not to love.

you can't pick up more than one person.

you get crazy mileage.

you can park practically anywhere. and it's quite possibly the cheapest mercedes benz that you will ever get to buy. the bastard would have bought one but, i like to have a little extra storage. and i like haveing the means to get other people around and i like to go places with my girlfriend and my son. so having a yaris works out for the bastard. but, i would have bought a smart if it met my needs. ok so much for product plugs. i don't do them often and while i will continue to mock/cover the smart, i'd rather see them than see escalades on the road.

...on beverages

the bastard swears, can't people just ordr frikkin coffee? two. no. three times i heard some suv driving pinhead ordering a venti, no sugar, dolce, (which is italian for SWEET asshole) carmel, soy, latte with no sugar and soy foam with no sugar in a big cup so i can dunk my ridiculous head in it when i get to work and drown. DROWN in my fake ass coffee!!!!!!!!

this is what the bastard does with his free time when he's visiting the boy...people watching. watching people order they drinks while i eat my brekky. you know, it's funny how in so many different places, the pretention remains the same. it's refreshing, in a sort of disgusting way.

crack that whip

went to the boy's school this morning in oro valley (it's like queens to tucson's manhattan) and all the kids were in costume. i didn't get the picture of the little boy who looked like the cowboy from the village people but claimed he was chuck norris as walker texas ranger but, the chairman did send me this image live and direct from the new york subway system this morning. i don't think that there is anywhere else on earth where the freaks come out like this on halloween. maybe in san francisco. but, the bastard hasn't been to san francisco on halloween so go to hell jerkpiece!

the neck tattoo makes the man...

...and other sunday morning jackassery

the bastard was on his way home on sunday morning (yeah, home, sunday morning) when it had occured to me that i didn't feel like going home.so i decided to go hunting. now while i do work for a hunting magazine and hunting is alive and well and living today in america's heartland, i don't hunt. at least not in the traditional sense. you see, i like to hunt oddities, idiots, hipsters. anything that strikes my fancy that particular day. also, the bastard is going to be out of town for the hunter safety course my job is offering so, it's not like i could go hunting for small creatures anyway. so i go to my usual hunting ground...the mall.

i actually park in the back of the mall because it's less frustrating and because you never know what's to buy. but my actual prize at the time was coffee which was at the front of the mall which gives me a chance to get the lay of the land. and it hit me at the coffee line. neck tattoos.

now this fine fella has himself a collared shirt for his mall job and right above the collar is this prison neck tattoo of what i can only assume is his girlfriend/baby mommy's name. unless of course his name is tina or whatever "t" name was written on his neck. it wouldn't make sense for him to have his own name on there, that would be idiotic. then again, that would imply that having a neck tattoo of anyone else's name wasn't idiotic. actually it was earlier in the morning i was having a discussion with my ladyfriend about how i don't want the company to move to florida or how i wouldn't want to go there mostly because while there is alot of fine fine work outside of the new york publishing arena in america, working outside of new york hobbles your career a little bit. this isn't the case internationally because new york publishers will hire a designer from australia or great britain sight unseen because the new york publishing industry is full of anglophiles (that and the fact of the matter is both great britain and australia bring a fresher perspective in a sea of esquire magazine imitators).

anyway, this took on a new meaning looking at this character, and the woman who was taking my coffee order with big ole script on her neck, and the other two people i saw with neck tattoos. why would you hobble your chances in life. if you go to college for 4 years (not that i'm saying any of these chuckleheads went to college but maybe they do) what makes you think that some stodgy middle manager of human resources is going to give you the time of day. i'm not saying it's right, i'm just saying.

also, while i think tattoos are kind of cool and all, they've become really pedestrian. everyone has one and that makes them less unique. celebrities have them. bikers have them. apparently coffee barristas have them. it almost seems like nothing is taboo anymore. nothing is cutting edge. nothing is risky anymore. and that makes the world seem that much less interesting. on the same token, it makes the bastard think about this movie i was watching last week called once were warriors in which two sons in a maori family are sitting down to dinner. one son who is in a traditional maori school learning the old ways says to his older brother how he likes his face tattoo. the older brother joined this street gang and wears a traditional face tattoo and black leather (i don't know how we got to this point, i missed the first 30 minutes of the film) and the tattooed brother asks if he wants one as well and the younger brother replies, "no thanks. i wear mine on the inside".
